General Information - SOMA!

The Southern Ontario Model United Nations Assembly is a three-day international relations simulation for high school students held annually in downtown Toronto! SOMA provides delegates with an opportunity to debate the important issues of our era to draft resolutions in response. In this way, delegates will develop their ability to problem-solve and work with others who are equally motivated and passionate to deal with topics and issues of global concern.

Here is what we do:
  • Each student, or "delegate" will be assigned both a country and committee (Ex: Grace is selected to represent Nigeria in the Security council.) You will maintain this stance on your country, during debates on specific issues.
  • We represent these countries and their opinions during conferences.
  • We attempt to come to conclusions and papers called draft resolutions with other students representing other countries, to resolve world issues.

SOMA will take place at the University of Toronto from April 18th-20th, 2018. You will need to make an application by December 1st, 2017.

The most important component of your application is a position paper! Throughout our meetings we will be talking about how to develop a solid paper, as well as posting examples here, on our website.

It is important to continually read the news and stay informed. Once you are assigned your country and committee, you can start delving into your research keeping in mind country policies.
